How Texas prices a permit
In Texas, what you pay turns on how heavy the load is and how far over legal it measures. Distance does not enter into it — a four-mile clip of the corner costs the same as running Texas end to end.
States do not use a common formula. Texas charges on a flat fee by weight band and dimension bands, depending on the permit and the configuration:

- The fee steps up at set weight thresholds and does not change with distance.

- Length, width and height are read together against a set of bands, and the band you land in sets the fee.

When you need an oversize permit in Texas
Over 102 inches wide or 80,000 lbs gross, a load needs a permit in Texas as it would anywhere. Height, trailer length and axle weight are where states differ, and here is where Texas sits.

- Texas allows 14' of height. The strictest states stop at 13' 6", so a load that needs a height permit in those may be legal here.
