How Florida prices a permit
In Florida, what you pay turns on how heavy the load is, how far over legal it measures and how far you travel in the state. Because distance is part of it, a short crossing of Florida costs less than running its length.
States do not use a common formula. Florida charges on dimension bands, weight and distance together and a flat fee by dimension, depending on the permit and the configuration:

- A rate per mile that rises with how heavy the load is, so both the weight and the length of the crossing move the price.

When you need an oversize permit in Florida
Over 102 inches wide or 80,000 lbs gross, a load needs a permit in Florida as it would anywhere. Height, trailer length and axle weight are where states differ, and here is where Florida sits.

- A tandem axle may carry 44,000 lbs here, above the 34,000 lbs federal Interstate limit — so a load that is overweight on the axles in a neighbouring state can be legal in Florida.
