How Indiana prices a permit
In Indiana, what you pay turns on how heavy the load is, how far over legal it measures and how far you travel in the state. Because distance is part of it, a short crossing of Indiana costs less than running its length.
States do not use a common formula. Indiana charges on dimension bands and weight and distance together, depending on the permit and the configuration:

- A rate per mile that rises with how heavy the load is, so both the weight and the length of the crossing move the price.

When you need an oversize permit in Indiana
Over 102 inches wide or 80,000 lbs gross, a load needs a permit in Indiana as it would anywhere. Height, trailer length and axle weight are where states differ, and here is where Indiana sits.
