About TruckTabsTrucking permit services

We price every state on your route in seconds. Getting the permit issued takes a team that knows the rules, the offices, and the filing systems in every state — that's us.

Permits are all we do

A carrier tells us where the truck is going and what it's hauling. We work out which permits each state on the route requires, what they cost, and then we go and get them. That is the whole business.

We are not a government agency and we do not issue permits — the states do. We are the people who deal with the states so a dispatcher or driver doesn't have to.

What we handle

Trip permits
Temporary registration for a truck that isn't apportioned in a state it's crossing.
Fuel permits
Temporary fuel-tax authority for a truck not licensed under IFTA in that state.
Oversize and overweight
Single-trip permits for loads past a state's legal dimensions or weight.

The hard part isn't the form. It's knowing what each state wants.

Every state writes its own rules and runs its own office. There is no single system to file into and no common answer to any question. This is the knowledge our team keeps, and it is why we exist.

Fee schedules that share no logic

One state charges a flat rate. The next charges per mile, or per axle, or per mile within a weight band, or by a dimension group that only that state uses. We keep 3 permit types priced across 51 jurisdictions, from each state's own published schedule.

Offices, hours and people

We hold 81 permit office records — phone numbers, hours, holidays, portal addresses, and the notes that only come from filing there repeatedly. Some states answer email in minutes. Some want a phone call. Knowing which is which is the job.

A different filing system every time

Some states have a modern portal. Some have a portal from 2004 that logs you out. Some take a PDF by email, and a few still prefer a fax. We maintain the credentials and the routine for each one so a carrier never has to learn fifty systems.

What the software is for

The platform exists so that ordering is instant and nothing gets missed. It handles the parts that are the same every time, and hands the rest to a person.

It prices the whole route at once

Enter an origin and destination and every state you pass through is priced from that state's own fee schedule — no waiting on a callback, no per-state phone calls.

It tells you when you're oversize

Your load is checked against each state's legal limits, and an oversize/overweight permit is added wherever it's needed. Most carriers find out they're oversize from us. That check is the single most useful thing the software does.

It keeps your work

A quote saves as you go, so a load you priced this morning is still there this afternoon, and we can send you a link to pick it back up.

It knows when to stop and ask

An order that looks unusual — an extreme dimension, a state with no pricing on file, a total out of the ordinary — is held for a person to quote by hand instead of charging your card and hoping.

How an order runs

  1. 1

    You price it

Route, truck, load. Every state on the trip comes back priced, with any oversize permits already added.

  2. 2

You pay and give us the details

Card, then the specific truck, trailer and driver that go on the applications.

  3. 3

    We file with each state

In its portal, by email, or on the phone — whatever that state takes, in the way it expects.

  4. 4

    Permits come back to you

Each one as it's issued, with the conditions the state attached to it.
